Algerian striker Riyad Mahrez at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations scored a spectacular freekick to send the Super Eagles packing in the semi-final and in 2025, he is looking to have another moment like that on Saturday, when they clash in the quarter final.
Algeria waited till the last minute of the extra time to score against Congo DR in their round of 16 tie on Tuesday to set up the quarter-final clash against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. Algeria are yet to lose a match and have conceded just one goal in the tournment.
The Super Eagles have been in good form and winning all their games with a strike force that is sending the shivers down the spine of their oppenets so far.
“Nigeria? We know them well; the game will not be easy. A free kick at the last minute again? We will see, anything is possible,” Mahrez said.
“We haven’t converted many opportunities, and we still know we have players who can make a difference.”
