Confederation of African Football irked by the ugly scenes that broke out after Nigeria beat Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinal of the Africa Cup of Nations at the Grand Stadium Marrakesh, Morocco, is considering sanctioning guilt parties in the disorderly conduct.
After the final whistle some Algerian players had altercations with their Nigerian counterparts and the match officials. Algerian goalkeeper Luca Zidane was seen physically grabbing Raphael Onyedika. Outside the Stadium Algerian fans clash with security personal as they protested the outcome of the match, they expected their team to win.
Also, sections of Algerian supporters attempted to storm the pitch and acts of vandalism were reported in parts of the stands. Flares were also thrown toward security personnel, prompting swift intervention by stadium authorities.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles totally outclassed their Algerian counterparts, who were lucky not to concede more goals as the Super Eagles peppered them with relentless attacks. In the second half of the encounter, Victor Osimhen scored one and made one for Adams Akor to seal the fate of the Algerians. The Algerians felt hard done by the referee who ignored a handball by Bright Osayi Samuel.
