A former Sports Minister Tammy Danagogo has been invited to report by the Police in Abuja over an alleged plot to eliminate Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike.
According to reports, Danagogo who is also a former Secretary to the Government of Rivers State was implicated in the plot via a leaked phone conversation with a person of interest, Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, who was detained by the Police with regards to the plot.
“Danagogo and Pastor Tombari were talking about the plot to invite Israelis to come and kill the Minister,” a police source was quoted by the Daily Post.
“The leaked phone conversation is with the police, and he has been invited for questioning.”
In the phone conversation, the two men were alleged to have discussed the possibility of hiring Israeli hit men to carry out the job of assassinating Wike who boasted recently he was the strong man of Rivers State politics and he couldn’t be gotten rid of easily.
In the conversation both men spoke of the talked about approaching the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to fund the alleged operation.
A copy of the letter circulating online and signed by DCP Adamu Mauzu of the Police Intelligence Response Team in Abuja instructed Mr. Danagogo to report to the IRT office at Guzape Junction Abuja, by 10.00am on Thursday January 15, 2026.
Meanwhile Danagogo in statement signed by media aide dismissed the allegations.
“Dr. Danagogo categorically denies these allegations. They are baseless, false, and fabricated,” the statement said. “He has no dealings whatsoever with anybody and was never, at any time, involved in any discussion, meeting, or plan bordering on violence, assassination, or any unlawful act.”
