Three surgeons who operated on Aishatu Umar and forgot a pair of surgical scissors in her stomach have been suspended by the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
Mrs. Umar a mother of five had a surgery at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano, back in September 2025 and carried the scissors in her belly with excruciating pains until January when she died before she could have another surgery to have the scissors removed.
According to a statement signed by Samira Suleiman who is the PRO of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, preliminary investigation ordered by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, confirmed that surgical scissors were left inside the patient’s body after a procedure.
It also referred the matter to the Kano State Medical Ethics Committee for further investigation and disciplinary measures in line with professional standards and the law.
“The Board extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Aishatu Umar and sympathizes with them over this painful loss. We reassure the public that negligence will not be condoned in any form,” the statement read.
