Former Adamawa North Senator Elisha Abbo was arraigned Wednesday before an Abuja High Court sitting in Gwagwalada, over an alleged rape of a 13-year-old schoolgirl.
The case marked CR/635/25 was brought against Abbo and one other defendant by the Inspector General of Police.
Abbo and the other defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges and were granted bail by presiding judge Justice I. Mohammed in the sum of ₦50 million, with two sureties of good repute, and ordered him to surrender his international passport. The second defendant was granted ₦40 million bail, also with two sureties.
The case was adjourned to February 11, 2026, for hearing.
Last week the police hand cleared Senator Abbo of the allegations of rape following what it described as a thorough and multi-layered investigation into the complaint filed against him.
Police findings indicate that the allegation, which surfaced in September 2025, could not be substantiated due to what investigators termed a lack of credible and supporting evidence.
The accusation was contained in a petition written by Mrs. Zainab Mohammed and addressed to the Inspector-General of Police, alleging that the former senator raped Khadija Mohammed at his residence in Katampe Extension, Abuja, on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
