The Police in Edo State have arrested a bus driver Osabuohen Igerebva for allegedly killing his girlfriend Joy Jerome in a fit of rage.
Igerevaba,42, was said to have attacked Miss Jerome, 32, after they got into an argument about her fidelity. According to the Edo State Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the incident happened on January 10 after the suspect picked up his girlfriend and they were heading home when the altercation began.
The suspect accused his girlfriend of not being faithful to him when she failed to explain to him her whereabouts for two days. Igerevba stopped his vehicle and jumped on Miss Jerome, physically assaulting her till she became unresponsive and was rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
He took her corpse and dumped it by a river side in the Ikpe community near Benin City. The police investigations subsequently identified the deceased as a resident of Upper Sakponba Road, Benin City.
This led to the arrest of Igerevba, who lives in the same area.
The police spokesperson confirmed that Igerevba is currently in custody and has reportedly confessed to the crime, while investigations are ongoing.
Reacting to the incident, Ikoedem advised members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution in their relationships.
