The names of 177 Christians kidnapped by gunmen from various Churches on Sunday in the Kajuru and Kachia local government areas of Kaduna State has been released against the background of denials by Kaduna Police no one was kidnapped.
Gunmen invaded the Kajuru community on Sunday morning and sprinted away 177 worshipers from three different Churches. The Kaduna Police Commissioner Muhammad Rabiu had dismissed the reports, challenging whoever is concerned to prove there was kidnapping.
“Some people tried to run, but they couldn’t because the armed men had surrounded the village,” said a community member.
“They gathered people together and later forced them to march into the bush.”
On Wednesday the Adara ethnic group represented by the Adara Development Association president Sébastien Barde, released the names of those who are missing after the raid by the gunmen suspected to be bandits.
The raid on the community last Sunday came barely a week after residents paid N2.6m to free 20 of their kinfolks that were taken by the gunmen.
Reacting to the latest twist Nigeria Police Force Headquarters spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the kidnap of the Christians have been confirmed by intelligence sources.
The police spokesperson added that the earlier statement was “not a denial of the incident but a measured response pending confirmation of details from the field, including the identities and number of those affected”.
