Afrobeats star Ayodele Balogun a.k.a Wizkid has been advised not bring Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti in his feud with Seun Kuti.
Seun Kuti who is one of the sons of Fela the creator of Afrobeat, was involved in an online scuffle with Wizkid’s fans and the “Ojuelegba” crooner jumped into the fray and claimed that he was bigger than Fela. He sparked a national debate; while kids of Wizkid’s generation agreed with him, others who knew Fela argued that Wizkid couldn’t step into Fela’s big shoes.
Yeni Kuti senior daughter of the freedom fighter and pan Africanist late musician waded into the debate on Thursday during TVC ‘s ‘Your View” programme.
“I wish when all these started, Wizkid had put a stop to it before it became what it is now. We are just about to celebrate our icon at the Grammy, and you are all doing all this rubbish, as if you are trying to dirty something.
“It’s not Fela or Fela’s family you are dirtying; it’s Nigeria. If you have a problem with someone, why are you now calling Fela out?
“Fela has done his own 27 years, 27 years, and you are still calling his name. That is just the answer to his greatness”, Yeni stated.
She added that Wizkid was a good kid she really liked.
“I love Wizkid a lot, he is my paddy na. He is my small friend. I remember when he started at the Shrine, he was a backup singer. I cannot stop liking Wizkid.”
