Ademola Lookman is poised to sign a contract with Atlético Madrid when he clears medical examinations Monday.
Lookman fell into depression after his club Atalanta refused to sanction his move to Serie A rivals Inter Milan in the summer, but the Super Eagles attacking midfielder was all smiles when he arrived in Madrid on Sunday.
Atletico Madrid said in a statement on Monday: “Atlético Madrid and Atalanta have agreed to the transfer of the 28-year-old Nigerian international Ademola Lookman, who is already in Madrid.
“The agreement is subject to the corresponding medical examination and the formalization of his contract.”
Lookman who in his three and a half seasons in Italy, established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A, racking up 55 goals and 27 assists, said he was looking forward to the challenge in the Spanish capital.
“I’m very, very happy to be here. I’m really looking forward to the challenge,” said the 28-year-old player.
