South Africa’s singer Tyla made history by winning a back-to-back Grammy Awards in the Afrobeats Category leaving Nigerian acts Burna Boy, Davido, Omah Lay, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid, empty handed in all categories.
Tyla won in the Best African Music Performance category, with her song Push 2 Start. She won in 2024 with her song “Water.”
The 2026 Grammy Awards were held at the Crypto.com Arena, in Los Angeles, United States at the weekend.
“I’m so grateful. This is insane. It just shows me how far we can take it. Being from where I’m from, we really have a chance, and that’s just amazing,” she said, visibly emotional.
Tyla also emphasized the importance of seeing more African musicians celebrated on the global stage, highlighting the need for continued recognition and opportunities.
