After a good run at the Africa Cup of Nations, Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has completed a January move to English Championship side Coventry City.
Onyeka who had little playing time at Brentford felt moving to Coventry City on loan will guarantee him good football, but former Super Eagles striker Victor Ikpeba is not amused.
Ikpeba, a former African Footballer of the Year said Onyeka was too big a player to pitch his tent with the club what are jointly topping the Championship with Middlesbrough.
“These things happen in football when you don’t get enough playing time. He’s a top player who puts in everything he has, even during the few times we’ve seen him play for Brentford.
“It’s not nice for him to drop down to the Championship. If he joined a top English club like a Premier League team, that would be amazing, or maybe he went to a good team in France, Italy, Spain, or a top league in another country. It’s really sad,” said Ikpeba on Super Sport.
“For a top player, we saw what he can do with the ball during the Nations Cup. He should have joined a stronger team, keep playing in the Premier League, or find a new opportunity somewhere else. Going to Coventry just because they are leading the league doesn’t make sense.”
