The police in Lagos said they have detained a suspect, while investigations are on in the mysterious death of a gospel singer and three others inside music studio.
According to the police the victims identified as Matthew Ogundele gospel singer, Itunu Ogundele, Joseph Sanya, and blogger Matthew Awosanya, also known as JoesTv, were found dead in the music studio located at the HFP Shopping Complex, Abraham Adesanya, Ajah area of Lagos State.
The deceased individuals were part of a gospel music crew invited to minister at a birthday praise programme hosted by the wife of the music studio owner, Akintayo Akinbola.
Police investigations revealed that the crew had concluded their music session late on Tuesday night and opted to sleep over at the studio.
Responding to inquiries on Sunday, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the case had been transferred from Ajah Police Division to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, for deeper investigation.
“One suspect, identified as the organiser of the event, is currently in custody. Investigation is ongoing, while we await the autopsy report,” Adebisi said in a text message.
Initial police reports stated that there were no visible marks of violence on the victims’ bodies when detectives arrived at the scene.
They were later confirmed dead at the Mainland Hospital, Yaba, and their bodies were deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
The deaths have sparked widespread grief and public outrage, especially on social media, where friends, fans, and members of the gospel music community have been calling for a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.
Tributes have continued to pour in for the victims, particularly Ogundele and Awosanya, both of whom were well-known in gospel and media circles.
