Bolt rules out compensation for family of Nigerian driver killed in South Africa

The family of Isaac Satlat the young Nigeria e-cab driver that was killed in a gruesome crime in South Africa will not be compensation by Bolt.
Satlat, 22, was murdered by car jackers who hailed his cab and mid-way into the journey he was strangled to death and robbed by his passengers. His dash cam captured the gut-wrenching crime, and it was shared on social media sparking an outrage both in South Africa and Nigeria.
Four individuals including three male and one female whose face clearly appeared on the camera are currently facing trial in a Pretoria magistrate court.
Bolt South Africa said in statement that Satlat from Plateau State, Nigeria was not a registered driver on its platform, but was using a profile of another rider, identified as Wiseman Makobe, in what it described as “profile sharing.”
“Bolt provides comprehensive support and compensation in cases where drivers are operating lawfully under their own verified profiles. This includes compensation for death, serious injury, and disability, as well as coverage of medical expenses.
“However, where impersonation or profile sharing occurs, the individual is operating unlawfully outside the scope of the platform’s protection. In such cases, compensation policies do not apply,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, a fundraising campaign on BackaBuddy to support Satlat’s repatriation and funeral expenses has exceeded its R70,000 target, raising over R72,000 from more than 250 donors.
