Napoli new coach Walter Mazzarri had his first training with the squad Wednesday, and there was no sign of Victor Osimhen.
Though the Super Eagles striker has recovered from injury and he is expected to play against Atalanta next weekend, Osimhen was reported to have stayed back at home following flu symptoms.
Osimhen has scored six goals this season from 10 games. He got injured while on international duty with Super Eagles in a friendly against Saudi Arabia October 13. He is not with the national team as they play against Lesotho and Zimbabwe in this weekend’s World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile Mazzarri spoke briefly to reporters before the first training session for the new coach. ‘I haven’t slept for two days.’
As he arrived, he was greeted at the gate by some of the same Napoli reporters who had already interviewed him regularly during his first tenure at the club from 2009 to 2013.
“I am tired, I haven’t slept for two days,” he told CalcioNapoli24.
“It is all as wonderful as usual.”
