Striker Victor Boniface’s participation in the African Cup of Nations is in doubt after he picked up a muscle injury in training.
Though the gravity of the injury remains sketchy, he is expected to fly back to Germany to undergo scans and coach Jose Peseiro is hopeful that the player can regain full fitness by the time the Super Eagles play their opening game against Equatorial Guinea.
However, if results of the scan do not favour a quick return the Bayer Leverkusen goal scorer could be missing his first African Cup of Nations contest.
Peseiro was looking forward to unleashing a strike force of Victor Osimhen and Boniface in Cote d’ Ivoire, he may now be looking for a replacement. His other strike option Kelechi Iheanacho is also out injured, leaving Osimhen and Sadiq Umar to shoulder the goal scoring burden.
