Nine persons are said to be still missing after the explosions that rocked the Bodija area of Ibadan the Oyo State capital.
Residents preparing to go to bed were treated to a loud bang on January 16, 2024, a devastation which left five people dead and property worth millions of naira destroyed by the explosion the Oyo State governor Seyi Makinde linked to illegal miners storing explosives in the residential area.
Muyiwa Bamgbose, who is the president of the Bodija Estate Residents Association, said Wednesday that nine people are still unaccounted for.
“It’s now more towards eight or nine (persons) that have been missing. We have brought the map of the street, and we are trying to account for house by house, that’s how we can actually get accurate figures.
” If a person was seen yesterday and you can’t find him today, then you know you need to get worried.”
Meanwhile governor Makinde disclosed that the effect of the blast is still being felt by the people and government of Oyo State.
“Yes, we have been battling with the fallout from the incident; we have been trying to give the affected people temporary accommodation so that they can continue their lives,” Makinde said while hosting the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees.
“Also, we have the people who got injured and need medical attention and the humanitarian side of it where some children are supposed to be in school now. So, it is still very early days and we have to look at a long-term solution. We are also dealing with the security aspect of the incident.”
