Over 300 Nigerian athletes are in Abuja to begin their build-up to Africa Games and Olympic Games with an evaluation competition billed for the Moshood Abiola Stadium on Friday.
Athletics Federation of Nigeria Secretary General , Rita Mosindi, said the evaluation meet has been split into two phases to accommodate the large number of athletes.
The first phase of the meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday February while the second phase will hold 16th to 17th February in Abuja.
The statement also approved events for the men’s category to include; 100m, 400m, 1,500m, 400mH, High Jump, Long Jump and Javelin while the events for the women’s category are; 100m, 400m, 800m, 100mH, Triple Jump, Discus and Race Walk
Mosindi also stated that prizes will be available for 1st to 6th positions in the men and women’s events.
The 13th edition of the African Games is scheduled for 8th to 13th March in Ghana
Meanwhile the AFN Competitions Organising Committee chairman, has backed Nigeria to present a team that would do the country proud at the Africa Games and the Olympics.
