The police in Lagos State said they have rescued and reunited with her family, a baby that was allegedly sold by a housemaid for N800,000.
Last week an X user had alerted the public that the maid identified as Ruth Okezie had absconded with the baby around 2.00am Saturday. The maid confessed that she had sold the baby, when she was cornered in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.
Speaking on the rescue of the baby Monday, Lagos Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin, wrote on his X paged: “Due to intense manhunt and pressure from the police, the buyer in the early hours of today abandoned the baby in Alade Market, Shomolu. Baby was promptly rescued by the police.
“The baby has since been handed over to her parents after they positively identified her.
“Efforts are still on to apprehend the buyer who is currently on the run.”
