Super Eagles top striker Victor Osimhen, is bogged down by an abdominal discomfort and maybe missing Wednesday’s African Cup of Nations semi-final tie against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.
The African Footballer of the Year did not fly with rest of the team to Bouke, venue of the encounter. He is been placed under observation and if there’s an improvement in his condition, he could be joining the Super Eagles later today.
“Team medics confirmed that he has been placed under close watch with a member of the medical team staying behind in Abidjan with him. If cleared by tomorrow morning, he will join the rest of the squad before 5 p.m.” said a statement on the Super Eagles X page.
Though Osimhen, the 2023 highest goal scorer in the Italian league has had a goal drought in Cote d’Ivoire, his contributions to Super Eagles march towards the AFCON final game has been enourmous.
He levelled scores when Equatorial Guinea proved difficult, he won a penalty against Cote d’Ivoire and remained a constant threat in every of the Super Eagles’ five games so far.
Jose Peseiro the team coach has the option of playing Paul Onuachu who has had some minutes of game and Tarem Moffi who has not tasted any action in the tournament.
Meanwhile the Super Eagles had their first training this morning in Bouke and would also train later in the evening as they prepare to tackle South Africa.
