Nigerian Labour Congress president Joe Ajero, said Friday that workers across the country will embark on two-day strike in protest against economic hardship being experienced in the country.
Speaking during a press chat in Abuja, Ajero said workers will down sit out in protest on February 27 and 28 this was after the NLC and the Trade Union Congress gave a 14-day nationwide striker notice to the Federal government on Febuary 8.
“It is regrettable that we are compelled to resort to such measures, but the persistent neglect of the welfare of citizens and Nigerian workers and the massive hardship leave us with no choice,” Ajero said.
Already Nigerians have made their voices heard on the lingering economic crisis, there have been protest about rising cost of food prices in Lagos, Osun, Kano, Niger and Rivers. President Tinubu and the state governor met in Abuja Thursday to address the problems facing the country.
Meanwhile Borno State governor Babagana Zulum has urged the state citizens to fast and offer special prayers on Monday, as done in the past, for divine intervention over the current hardship caused by inflation.
Mr Zulum, in his broadcast to the people of the state, implored traditional rulers, clerics and citizens to observe a one-day voluntary fast on Monday for peace, prosperity and the development of the state.
“I am deeply troubled by the recent hardships faced by our citizens, particularly the high cost of food items,” said the governor.
“I understand the burden this places on families and individuals, and I want to assure you that we are taking decisive steps to alleviate this issue.”
