Nine Nigerian boxers are in the semi-final of their respective events of the ongoing African Games and Nigerian Boxing Federation officials are optimistic of having a good outcome at the Bukom Boxing Arena Accra Wednesday evening.
In the women’s category, the 50kg contest is between Zainab Adeshina and Grace Fanhbulleh of Liberia, in the 57kg, Nene Ojo dares Tunisia’s Hlimi Khouloud and in the 75kg Mozambique’s Rady Gramane has Patricia Mbata to contend with. Mbata has an axe to grind with Gramane, because in the 2023 African Championship in Cameroon, Mbata lost to the Mozambican in a fight she felt that she won.
In the men’s category; 57kg has Dalapo Omole taking on Albert Ngule Zambia, 92kg Egypt Ali Elsalamony faces Olaore Adams
The semi-finals continue on Thursday: In the women’s 70kg Blessing Orakwe will face Tunisia Zina Iben and the in 54kg it is Shakura Kareem v Martha Faki Amina of Kenya,
The Men 92+ kg Ifeanyi Onyekwere will slug it out with Anthony Bweluzeyi of Congo Democratic Republic.
“Our boxers have been doing well, we are hopeful that all nine will reach the final and then we can start talking about winning the gold,” said a Nigeria Boxing Federation official
