The Seventh Day Adventist Church of Nigeria has lost its bid to compel the Federal government to stop the conduct of elections and exams on Saturdays.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja Wednesday, dismissed a suit filed by the Church. Presiding judge Justice James Omotosho said during his ruling that the suit was irritating and lacked merit.
He said the Church cannot impose its doctrine on the majority of Nigerians and also cannot dictate a policy to the government.
The Seventh Day Adventist Church unlike other Christian denominations has their worship on Saturday. In its suit the church claimed that Saturday being its day of worship prevented its members from partaking in Saturday elections and exams adding that it was a breach in the fundamental rights of the church’s congregation.
