Six Nigerian boxers have booked their places in their respective bouts of the African Games and come Friday when the finals would be decided at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra, Nigerian officials are hopeful of a gold fest.
In the semi-finals decided Wednesday evening the Nigeria men and women didn’t have to struggle much with their opponents to advance to the final stage.
In the women 50kg Zainab Adesina beat Grace Zinnah Fanbulleh of Liberia 5-0, 57kg had Nene Ojo dismissing Hlimi Khouloud of Tunisia on 5-2 points while in the 75kg, Patricia Mbata had her pound of flesh by beating rival Adosinda Gramane of Mozambique 4-1.
She subjected Gramane to two standing counts in the third round in which the renowned Mozambican boxer looked ordinary with the bullish Mbata even dropping her guard and inviting her subdued opponent to attack.
Mbata’s opponent in the final is Tunisia’s Molka Mabrouk who received a bye.
While in the men Omole Dalapo in the 57kg outclassed Albert Ngulube of Zambia 5-0 men and in the 92kg Adams Olaore beat Egypt’s Ali Elsalamony 5-0.
In Thursday semi-final Cynthia Ogunsemilore takes on Hadjila Khelif of Algeria in the 60kg, in the 70kg Blessing Orakwe battles Tunisia Zina Iben and in the men 92+ Ifeanyi Onyekwere takes on Congo Democratic Republic’s Anthony Bweluzezeyi.
