The Nigerian army is combing the Niger Delta creeks for a militant suspected to have played a major role in the murder of 16 soldiers said to be on peace mission to Okuama Community in Ughelli South Local Government area of Delta State.
The suspect identified as Endurance Okodeh a.k.a Amangben is currently at large and soldiers are searching for him in Delta and Bayelsa State. He was trailed to Igbomorotu, a riverine community in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, during the week, but he was nowhere to be found even as the soldiers on the mission left a trail of destruction.
Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA STATE, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, said Thursday during a meeting with the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, in Port Harcourt that soldiers on the trail of the militant will remain until he was fished out.
“The mission handed to troops by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, is basically to recover the weapons carted away by the perpetrators of this heinous crime and ensure that all those involved are arrested.
“Troops will continue to be in the creeks until these objectives are achieved.
“The operations would be conducted in the most professional manner in line with the global best practice of adherence to rules of engagement and respect for the fundamental human rights of the citizenry”.
