Speculations about his future with Napoli has dogged Victor Osimhen’s season with the Italian Serie A champions, but his thumping headed goal last weekend against Monza was a reminder the Nigerian striker remains as deadly as ever.
Osimhen before the game last weekend failed to find the back of the net for Napoli in four matches after making a good start in February. His goal which defied gravity, when he jumped almost 2.23m to head in the ball, dominated discussions.
“I saw Victor score that goal against Monza. Oh God! He got hurt, I thought. I wouldn’t have gone for that ball, it’s crazy. An absurd goal!,” former Chelsea great Didier Drogba observed.
Area Napoli also wrote at the weekend that Osimhen is the best in the world.
“He really flew into the sky at Monza. He is a very strong centre-forward, perhaps the best in the world, also for [his] athleticism.
“Something superhuman, which nobody on the planet possesses. I wish he would stay at Napoli until the end of his career. Dreaming is good for the health!”
In February 2023, Osimhen jumped 2.58m in the air to score against Spezia, “leap-frogging” Cristiano Ronaldo to register the second-highest leap recorded in Serie A — behind only Fikayo Tomori.
Drogba and his former teammate John Mikel Obi are keen to see Osimhen sign for Chelsea in the summer, they are reported to have table a bid at Napoli are ready to offer cash and a player in the person of Romelu Lukaku. But it seems Paris St Germain are prepared to land the player even as Arsenal is watching with keen interest.
