Socialite and crossdresser, Idris Olarewaju Okuneye a.k.a Bobrisky, will spend the next six months in jail after he was sentenced by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos Friday, without the option of a fine.
Bobrisky had earlier been convicted on charges of abusing the naira in a case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Presiding judge Justice Abimbola Awogboro, while passing the sentence stated that the punishment meted to Bobrisky would serve as warning to Nigerians who fragrantly abuse or mutilate the nation’s legal tender.
He asked Bobrisky of his gender before passing the sentence and he affairmed that he was a man. Justice Awogboro ruled that Bobrisky will start his jail term from March 24, 2024, the day he was arrested.
In his final plea Bobrisky begged for mercy: “My Lord. My Lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money.
“I would do a video on my page and I would educate people about spraying money.
“I will not repeat it, My Lord. I regret my actions, My Lord.”
