Up and coming hurdler, Faith Osamuyi said the recently concluded Mabel Madojiemu Championships has been a blessing to Edo State.
Osamuyi, participated in the maiden edition of the schools only competition in 2019 and has gone on to be a budding athlete who recently represented Nigeria at the African Games in Accra Ghana.
She noted that the Mabel Madojiemu Athletics Championships has enabled so many grassroots to have an avenue to showcase their talents.
“The competition is a blessing to us indigenes, it just right here in our doorsteps,” said Osamuyi.
“We didn’t have to travel far to look for competitions to participate in and besides there aren’t too many grassroots meets such as this in the country.”
Speaking on her foray so far in athletics, Osamuyi stated that she was looking forward to great things.
“So far the journey has been great, though is not easy, but I am thankful to God for getting me to this stage.
“I am looking forward to competing at the African level again. I will do my best, with my coach and God anything can happen.”
She revealed that world record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan is her greatest inspiration and would want to follow her footsteps.
“My inspiration has always been Tobi and running with her at African Games was ecstatic.
“Watching run at world level; I’m like this is one of us. There is this vibe she gives to us younger ones coming after her,” Osamuyi added.
