World record holder in the women’s 100mh, Tobi Amusan did not start in her event at the CAA African Championships due to illness.
Shortly after arrival in Douala, Cameroon, the two time African champion took Ill and was diagnosed with ‘Sore throat.’
Fans were looking forward to see Amusan who in March won her third consecutive African Games title, but she made a no show when the 100m hurdles runners were ordered out of the call room.
She missed the chance to win her third consecutive title, after winning in 2018 and 2022. Only Maria Usifo in the 400mh and Glory Alozie 100mh have the record of three consecutive wins in the history of the Championships.
Amusan is one of the hurdles in contention for the Olympics gold in Paris, France later in July. She need to stay in good shape as she targets her first Olympics gold medal after three appearances in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
