With three points out of four games, Super Eagles can still turn things around in the group C World Cup qualifiers, Sports Minister John Enoh has optimistically declared.
Nigeria is down second from the bottom in the group C table with four points behind group leaders on goal aggregate Rwanda, this was after the Super Eagles blew two matches they needed to win against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana and Benin Republic’s Cheetahs who are also on seven points.
“The majority opinion is that it’s not impossible yet to qualify for the World Cup,” Enoh said in a chat with Eagle7 FM Saturday.
“In sports, noting is impossible. We have only played four out of 10 qualifying matches, we still have six matches remaining.”
Speaking on the row between former Super Eagles coach Finidi George and striker Victor Osimhen after the dismal outing in April, Mr. Enoh caution that the Nigeria Football Federation need to handle the situation with care so that the team is not distracted from the task of qualifying for the World Cup.
“There has been a plethora of opinions on this. Osimhen is a Trojan for Nigeria, but it was a low.
“I told the NFF not to make a pronouncement on this before they have engaged Osimhen. This is so especially because these are not the best of times for Nigeria football and we have to manage a lot of things.
“The NFF have to be focused and not be distracted.”
