Sports administrator and Gombe State Athletics Association chairman, Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe has threatened to sue journalists using his name in their quest to fan embers of discord in the Athletics Federation of Nigeria.
An online publication SportsNow had quoted Hon. Gara Gombe in it’s criticism of the AFN list of athletes for the Paris 2024 Olympics Games, but according to the Gombe AA boss, he never granted any interview to the author of the article in the said publication.
He added that this was the second time the same publication reported that he organised a meeting of northern athletics association chairmen in Kaduna, when he never did and was even out of the country at that time.
“Throughout last week I was busy with the organisation and execution of secondary schools Athletics Games Masters Workshop in Gombe State and the writer neither called nor sought my opinion about AFN Athletes selection; enough is enough I will sue any Journalist that tries it next time for damages in Court,” Gara Gombe said.
“If I have seen the AFN list and was quoted out of context, that’s a different thing, but putting it in writing what I didn’t say is a criminal act and I will take a legal action if it repeats itself.
“My fight with people is not personal but for the interest of the nation and that’s when an institution was abused, SportsNow can’t use me to fight personal battle, this is the last warning.”
