Business entrepreneur, politician and publisher of the Champion Newspaper, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu has passed on at 82.
Chief Iwuanyanwu who is also the president of Ibo cultural group Ohaneze died Thursday morning at about 11.00 am in Abuja after a brief illness. His first daughter, Dr. Nwadiuto Iheakanwa, confirmed his passing. He is the second Ohanaeze president general to die in quick succession.
A statement released by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu on behalf of the family, said: “The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo.
“Chief Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday July 25, 2024 after a brief illness. He was aged 82. Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.”
Iwuanyanwu became popular in the 1980s and 90s with the football club, Iwuanyanwu Nationale of Owerri which later transformed to Heartland of Owerri.
