Edo State Sports Commission executive chairman, Yusuf Alli has applaud the call up of Edo Queens players to the camp of national U-20 team the Falconnets.
Goodness Osigwe, Comfort Folorunsho and Chioma Olise, were three players vital to Edo Queens successful campaign in the 2023/24 national women’s league, which they win for the first time.
Edo Queens coach Moses Aduku was banking on them as they chase qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU play-offs in Cote D’Ivoire starting August 10.
But the trio have been invited by coach Chris Danjuma for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia starting August 31.
Speaking on the development Mr. Alli stated that Osigwe a striker, Olise a midfielder and Folorunsho a defender are needed by the Edo Queens for CAF women champions league qualifiers, but the national assignment was more important.
“Yes, the girls are very important in our team for the CAF Champions League in Cote D’Ivoire, but the national assignment comes first,” said Alli.
“We are happy to receive the cheering news and it should serve as a motivation instead…I wish our girls success and we wish the Falconets success at the world cup.”
He added that Edo State was committed to youth sports development and will continue to discover more talents in all sports.
“This is one of the reasons our state government invest so much in our football teams and other sports; to help develop talents and raise players for our national teams. So, getting three call up letters for our girls is a plus to us as the management and Edo State Government.”
