Rivers State Commissioner for Sports Development, Barr. Christopher Green said plans are in top gears for an effective and efficient outing for Team Rivers in the forthcoming National Sport Festival.
Barr. Green said in an interview that Governor Siminalayi Fubara has directed the technical department of the sports council to ensure that all facilities are in shape to enable the State’s athletes prepare adequately ahead of the national festival .
He disclosed that as part of preparations for the Sports Festival to be hosted by Ogun State, plans have been made to organise a Rivers State sports festival and secondary school games to enable coaches discover and groom fresh talents, noting that he believes in catching them young and growing through the ranks.
Barr. Green stressed that amid distractions, Governor Fubara is focused and determined in performing his responsibilities as Governor by ensuring the twenty three Local Government Areas in the state have a fair share in terms of development.
Speaking on the performance of Team Nigeria in the ongoing Olympics, Barrister Green commended the Federal Government and Minister of Sport, Mr John Eno for ensuring a proper preparation for Team Nigeria.
He explained that while on his visit to the camp in Germany, he observed that the Nigerian contingent was well taken care of in terms of welfare and payment of allowances.
Barrister Green a former technical director of the NFF speaking on the performance of the Super Falcons, noted that the girls did their best in a very tough group C of the Olympics women soccer contest.
