The #EndBadGovernance demonstrations continued on Monday despite pleas by President Bola Tinubu for an end to the protest against rising cost of living in the country.
In Lagos protesters gathered at the Gani Fawehinmi Park Ojota, but the heavy presence of police kept the marchers in check, besides they were also threatened by thugs said to have been paid by the government through third parties.
There were also mild demonstrations in Abuja where the police fired live rounds and teargas at the protesters last weekend. In Kano the protests continued, and business owners have hired security to watch over their premises to prevent looting and vandalism.
But a worrisome aspect of the protests occurred in Kaduna where the governor Uba Sanni declared a 24 hours curfew after demonstrators poured out into the streets in their numbers. Some of them were seen waving Russian flags akin to protesters in Niger Republic where the military overthrew the democratically elected President and set up a junta.
“We are raising the Russian flag because we believe Tinubu is playing his imperial masters’ scripts—the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and the United States of America,” a protester said.
Meanwhile President Tinubu is currently meeting with the services chiefs at the Presidential Villa, to review the situations around the country.
