Nigeria’s D’ Tigress are set to face team USA in the quarter final of the women’s basketball contest of the Paris 2024 Olympics and Elizabeth Balogun, says she and her teammates are ready to compete when they clash on Friday.
D’ Tigress posted as 79-70 win over Canada 79-70 to become the first African team – men’s or women’s – to reach the last eight in Olympic basketball. They will play against the US women that have won the title for seven consecutive Olympic games. The USA won all their three group C games, while the D’Tigress beat Australia and Canada, but lost France to finish third in group B.
“We’ve been dreaming about this moment. We’re showing that no matter where you’re from – African, European – we can compete. It’s been a long road and we’re still going,” said Balogun who got 14 points, four rebounds and an assist their game against Canada.
