World record holder in the women’s 100m hurdles Tobi Amusa, remains crestfallen after she missed out of the Paris 2024 Olympics medals distribution roll call.
Amusan was in Paris with high hopes that she would finally be winning an Olympic medal that has so far eluded her in her illustrious career, but she fell short of achieving that goal, much to the surprise of her supporters and fans.
She shockingly failed to make it to the final after topping her heat with 12.49 seconds, the second fastest time leading to the semi-finals, where she ran 12.55 in and missed the final. The race was won by Masai Russell of USA, with 12.33 seconds, Cyrena Samba-Mayela of France was the silver medalist with 12.34 secs, while Jasmine Camacho-Quinn of Puerto Rico took the last podium position with 12.36 seconds.
“Tobi has not being herself and I guess we just have let her process what has happened,” said athletics official.
“But the question everybody should be asking the coach Lacena Golding Clarke contracted to handle Tobi at the Games is… what happened to her?
“What happened to Tobi’s start. She and indeed other coaches at the Olympics should tell us what happened to our athletes.
“It is very important that we know so that we don’t repeat such embarrassing outings as we prepare for the next Games.”
