Blacks Stars of Ghana are in danger of missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after they were beaten 2-0 by the Falcons of Sudan in a qualifying tie played Tuesday in at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benina, Libya on Tuesday.
The Black Stars showed some sense of purpose in the opening stages of the game with Mohammed Kudus coming close to scoring on a number of chances. But Sudan soon took over and put Ghana under pressure, but did not make Ghana suffer.
But in the second half, against the run of play, Sudan took the lead soon after the hour-mark after making way into the Ghana box, as Ahmed Al Tash carved out a right-footed shot on the edge of the six-yard area.
Sudan coached by Ghana-born James Kwasi Appiah, doubled their advantage in the 65th minute of the match as Mohamed Abdelrahman joined Al Tash on the scoresheet after gathering steam from their opener.
In response to conceding two goals in rapid fashion, Ghana took the direct route to goal but failed at the final hurdle in doing so.
Ghana travel to Angola on November 11 before finishing their qualifying campaign at home against Niger on November 19. Angola top the group F table with 12 points, Sudan with seven points, while Ghana have two points and Niger a point.
“It’s unfortunate for Ghana, they have a good team, but it is Sudan that went through. I’m happy putting the smiles on the faces of Sudanese,” said Kwasi Appiah who coached the Blacks Stars between 2017-2020.
