Members of Obada Idi-Emi community in the Imeko Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State were left enraged after a student was flogged to death by his teacher.
The student simply identified as Ariyo was said to have made a cruel joke at the teacher during a class session at the Obada Idi-Emi High School.
Ariyo was subjected to 162 frog jumps and whipped 24 times by the teacher who had warned the students not to break the class dustbin. He was irked when Ariyo remarked that the dustbin was bought with student’s money.
The teacher then reported the student to the principal who ordered that he be punished. He slumped during the ordeal and was not given medical attention immediately; he was confirmed dead at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who spoke to the PUNCH confirmed the incident. She said the police brought the situation under control as members of the community stormed the school premises.
“The incident happened on October 15, 2024. The deceased was asked to do 162 frog jumps and was given 24 strokes of the cane.
“He was rushed to FMC Idi-Aba for medical attention, and he died today (October 25). The deceased body has been deposited at the Ayetoro mortuary for autopsy. An investigation is ongoing.”
