Afrobeats diva Onyinkansola Aderibigbe a.k.a Ayra Starr has downplayed comparison between her and South African singer Tyla.
Tyla beat Ayra Starr to the 2023 Grammy Awards in the Afrobeats category, but according to Ayra Starr, there’s no rivalry between them and there was no need for comparison. She told BBC Radio 1 Xtra, she and the ‘Pour Me Water’ singer are buddies committed to promoting Afrobeats.
“Tyla is my homegirl, that’s my G. That doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t care about all of that. Less noise, more music.
” Let’s support each other, like, why not, like afrobeats and African music is about to take over the world and we have to come together to be able to do that. There’s no need for comparisons”.
