Stephen Joshua Daylop is one of the top Nigerian distance runners that have always marked the register for four years running at the Warri Effurun Peace Marathon billed for November 30.
But Daylop had always played second fiddle to the likes of Ismael Sadjo, Adamu Shehu Mu’azu and Emmanuel Gyan. But ahead of the 2024 race, Daylop stated that his aim was to win the top prize this time around.
“I’m training really hard for this year’s race, and I am not settling for second position or third,” said the Jos born athlete.
Last year he was third in the race won by Sadjo with a time of 30.12seconds, Francis James was second with. Daylop said he was looking forward to being in Warri for the 10km with a strong will to overwhelm the men.
Meanwhile the race organisers say a new course will be charted out for the 10km race that usually started at the Airport Road in Effurun and terminated at the Warri Stadium.
“We discovered that the Airport Road to Stadium is usually busy,” said Mrs. Joyce Bozimo WEPM founder.
“So, we are looking at alternative routes. Besides the Warri South Local government and the Uvwie Local government the race falls withing their domain are eager to participate fully, therefore the new route would be going through their locality, and we are looking foward to seeing a large turnout.”
