Ademola Lookman scored a brace to hand his club Atalanta a win over Napoli in Sunday’s Serie A clash at the Diego Maradona Stadium.
Lookman fresh from his top 14 rating at the Ballon d’or awards tipped the scales in favour of Atalanta in just ten minutes when he volleyed from a tight angle after being fed by Charles De Ketelaere. Lookman was back in the 31st minute to claim his second goal from a counterattack initiated by De Ketelaere.
He made a long pass to Lookman who outwitted Napoli defender Giovanni Di Lorenzo before firing pass Alex Meret with a right-foot scorcher from outside the box. Mateo Retegui came off the bench in the second half to complete the routing of Napoli in their home turf, the defeat ended their run of three wins in a row.
“It was a big performance from the team, we’re happy and three points away to the leaders is never easy, so we’re proud of that,” Lookman told DAZN.
“Individual achievements are part of football, but this is a team game, my squad helps me a lot. I continue working and try to help the team when I can.”
Napoli remain on top of the table with 25 points, while Atalanta are in second spot with 22 points.
