Former governor of Delta State Ifeanyi Okowa has been speaking to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over his alleged misappropriation of public funds while in the office.
According to reports Dr. Okowa was questioned at the EFCC zonal office in Port Harcourt against the background of allegations of fraud and mismanagement. Sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the former governor has been detained while investigation into his activities last.
“I cannot confirm or deny that the former governor is under investigation, we have to hear officials from the EFCC before making any comment,” said a top Delta State government official when asked about the development.
Okowa, who led the state from 2015 to 2021, focused on infrastructure and social development but faced criticism over financial accountability issues. Incumbent governor Sheriff Oborevworie in recent days have been vocal about debts left behind by Dr. Okowa. De
