Benin Republic coach Gernot Rohr is hoping that the Super Eagles will do his team a Favour by beating Rwanda in Monday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Cheetahs almost caused another upset at the Félix-Houphouët-Boigny Stadium on Thursday in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire but for Victor Osimhen’s headed goal in the 82nd minute after Benin had taken the lead with a first half Mohammed Tijani’s header that was fumbled by Stanley Nwabali. Winning could have all but guaranteed a ticket for Rohr and his men.
They have to at least draw with Libya on Monday and hope that Rwanda do not get a massive result in Uyo against the Super Eagles who are topping the group D chart with 11 points. Benin are on seven, while Rwanda have five points and Libya four points. A win for Libya against Benin and a loss for Rwanda will push them through.
“We have to avoid defeat. But you don’t go to play for a draw,” Rohr said.
“So we will use our confidence from the performance against Nigeria for the game in Benghazi.
“Hopefully, the Super Eagles will beat Rwanda in Uyo.”
