President Bola Tinubu has signed on as one of the supporters of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, created by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva of Brazil.
Speaking at Monday’s opening of the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Tinubu said the forming of the alliance is pivotal point in the fight against global hunger.
“This bold and visionary step underscores Brazil’s leadership in addressing one of the most urgent and persistent challenges facing our world today,” Tinubu said.
“The creation of this alliance marks a significant milestone in our global efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty, and it also sends a powerful message of solidarity to vulnerable populations around the globe.
“By fostering collaboration between governments, international organisations, and civil society, this initiative offers a comprehensive approach not only to addressing immediate needs but also tackling the structural causes of hunger and poverty.”
This is just as Nigeria’s inflation is showing no sign of retreating from the double-digit figure and has kept rising forcing the price of commodities high and unaffordable to many Nigerians.
However, according to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, President Tinubu is striving to take Nigerians out of the bracket of poverty.
“He is working hard to get investments through private sector investors both domestically and foreign direct investors to increase the productivity of Nigeria, grow the economy, create jobs and of course move a large number of people out of poverty,” said Mr. Edun during the opening ceremony of the 2024 National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED)’s conference in Bauchi
