Edo Queens’ run for history at the CAF Women Champions League came to humbling ending when they surrendered to TP Mazembe of Democratic Republic of Congo in Tuesday’s semi-final game.
Emem Essien had put the Nigerians champions ahead with a 65th miunte strike to score her third goal of the tournament. Edo Queens held on to their slim lead, but bowed to presure from the Congolese side in the 90th minute Merveille Nanguji, leveled up to drag the game to extra time.
Disaster struck when Comfort Folorunsho scored an own goal in the 101 minute and Marlene Kasai scored from the spot to compound Edo Queens predicatment. They would now vie for third place finish. Edo Queen can proud of themselves being their first time in the tournament.
