While Nigerians await the reaction of the Federal government to claims by the National Petroleum Corporation Limited that the Port Harcourt refinery is now in full operation, but it is not, a group has called for the sack of Mele Kyari who is in charge of the NNPCL.
The group, Network of Oil Producing Communities in Nigeria (NOPCN) said Mr. Kyari and the NNPCL have mislead Nigerians and President Bola Tinubu about the true state of the refinery, which is not running to full capacity.
Last week Tuesday the NNPCL announced that the complex was back to full speed production and trucks have been loading products, but it turnout that what was loaded by the trucks, were old stock laying fallow since 2016 in storage tank facilities.
“It doesn’t surprise us that the NNPCL shut down the refinery sooner than they claimed it was operating. That’s because they ran out of lies and couldn’t cajole the President any further,” said NOPCN in a statement signed by its president, Igeniwari Edward, and secretary Comrade Omototsho Ogbe.
“Kyari should be so sober right now and I believe he is already aware that the much celebrated 60,000 capacity segment of the refinery they claimed to have rehabilitated was shut down 2 days ago and no activity is happening there any longer.
“The President should not wait any further before he sacks Mele Kyari and all his accomplices in this national monumental trick they pulled on Nigerians on Tuesday.”
The group also demanded that Mr. Kyari be made to account for the N17 trillion injected into the Port Harcourt, Warri and Kaduna refineries.
President Tinubu who is the Minister of Petroleum has maintained a radio silence on the controversy. While in Paris as guest of the French government he had congratulated the NNPCL for bringing the Port Harcourt refinery back to life urging Kyari to expedite action on the Warri and Kaduna refineries.
