Manchester City is mourning the death of a fan who collapsed and died during Sunday’s Manchester derby 2-1 defeat to United.
The fan a male had been a season-ticket holder since City moved to the Etihad Stadium 21 years ago.
“Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match,” City said in a post on X.
“The thoughts of everyone at the club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”
Several users of the social media platform replied expressing their condolences, including one who indicated he knew the deceased, who was said to have suffered a heart attack.
A witness, who wished to remain anonymous, told the Manchester Evening News: “It was about 10 past 4. We were going into the grounds at entrance K and the gent was on the floor having CPR performed on him. It had just happened as there were only a few people in front of us.
“There was one steward working on him, and we were all screaming for them to get a defibrillator. It was chaos.
“A young girl ran over to get the defibrillator. At this point more stewards came running over and formed a circle around him.
“They worked on him for a long time, about 20 minutes and he was taken into an ambulance. We are all traumatised by it.”
