After all said and done it was Ghana’s Black Galaxies that ate the humble pie after losing to Nigeria’s Super Eagles B in Saturday’s CAF African Nations Championship qualifier in Uyo.
Before the game the Ghanaians were confident of victory, believing they played a better game in the first leg, which ended 0-0 in Accra.
But the Nigerian lads had other ideas. They put up a spectacular showing, which coach Daniel Ogunmodede had demand of them and simply blew the Black Galaxies out of orbit. When the referee sounded the whistle for the half time break, Ghana realised it was game over.
Sadiq Ismail put Nigeria ahead in the 19th minute cashing in on a disoriented Ghana defence to slot home comforting goal.
Three minutes later team captain
Nduka Junior doubled the score deflating Ghana’s confidence, before they could recover Savior Isaac nailed in the third goal to complete the first routing in the 26th minute.
In the second half the Black Galaxies tried to find a way out of their problems, but the Eagles were unyielding.
Stephen Amenkona scored Ghana’s consoling goal in 73rd minute, as the CHAN Eagles defended till the end and pumped the air celebrating their return to the tournament, they last featured in 2018.
The team must now prove their qualification for the CHAN is not to make up the numbers when the tournament begins February 2, 2025 in host host countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
In 2018 Nigeria won the silver and that is a bar the Eagles have to clear.
