President Bola Tinubu has called on the Nigeria army to respond swiftly to the dawn attack by elements of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram terrorists that killed six soldiers and several others at an army base in Sabon Gida, Damboa, Borno State.
Tinubu condoled with the families of the slain soldiers who paid the ultimate price, adding that their death will only reinforce the need to eliminate the threats pose by the terrorists.
The ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters swooped on the army base at about 4.am on January 4, 2025, killing and setting buildings and operational vehicle ablaze in what was described as revenge for the killing of their leader by the army.
“I extend heartfelt gratitude and sympathy to our military and security forces on behalf of a grateful nation.
“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” said Tinubu in a statement signed by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
He added that the army should do a “thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances that led to the unfortunate incident and ensure that it serves as a valuable lesson to prevent similar occurrences.”
The Commander-in-Chief also commended the armed forces for their swift and decisive response, particularly the air component, in launching effective retaliatory strikes.
