A petrol tanker explosion along the Dikko/Kaduna Road, Suleja in Niger State Saturday left 77 people dead and many others injured.
The incident occured as the victims attempted to scoop fuel from the fallen tanker when the flames ignited and consumed the affected persons.
Reacting to the reoccurring incidents of tanker explosions in the country the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) called stricter enforcement of safety measures.
In a statement, the chairman of the Forum, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, extended the heartfelt condolences of the NGF to the government and people of
Niger State, as well as families who have suffered the unimaginable loss of their loved ones.
The NGF described the latest incident as a stark reminder of the urgent need to enhance the nation’s regulatory frameworks to prevent such reoccurrence.

“We also commend the swift response of emergency services, first responders, and security agencies in managing the aftermath of this disaster. We urge all citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize safety at all times.”
